Yum on Fedora 13 or 14

How to set up yum to work on Fedora 13 or 14 :

Generally speaking the usual error is something like this :
# yum update
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
Adding en_US to language list
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again

To get yum to run normally, this are the steps to be done :

1
Set up you DNS resolvers in /etc/resolv.conf file :
# Generated by NetworkManager
search domain-that-you-need (not necessary)
nameserver IP-address-of-DNS-server
2
Turn off IPV6 :
#service ip6tables stop
#chkconfig –level 123456 ip6tables off
Make a file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ipv6.conf :
install ipv6 /bin/true
blacklist ipv6
In file /etc/sysconfig/network add the following lines :
NETWORKING_IPV6=no
IPV6=no
3
At the beggining of the YUM configuration file /etc/yum.conf add a line :
[main]
proxy=http://IP-address-of-proxy-server:port-proxy-server
cachedir=/var/cache/yum/$basearch/$releasever
keepcache=0
debuglevel=2
logfile=/var/log/yum.log
exactarch=1
3a
Under GUI set up network proxy server :
System/Preferences/Network Proxy/Manual Proxy Configuration (the same IP and port as under 3)
4
Clean up YUM :
#yum clean all
#rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db*
#rpm –rebuilddb
5
Restart maschine.
test yum :
# yum info kernel
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
Adding en_US to language list
Installed Packages
Name : kernel
Arch : i686
Version : 2.6.35.6
Release : 45.fc14
Size : 78 M
Repo : installed
i tako dalje…..

If it still is not working, maybe the folloing can help :
Change the start of the file /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo
Check the repo addresses, which can be a problem with older distros.
